EU AID for the construction and reconstruction of 20 large hospitals in Serbia
The amount of EUR 250 million has been used via the European Investment Bank for the reconstruction and construction of 20 large hospitals in all of Serbia, including the Torlak Institute, which is now in the focus of the battle against the Coronavirus.
It was only last year that the construction of the new building and the reconstruction and the expansion of the Clinical Center Niš were finished. It includes the work on the existing objects, new blocks, yards and parking spots. It was 45,000 square meters that were reconstructed, and this important university center of the highest level of health protection received 600 hospital beds, out of which 38 for intensive care and 42 for semi-intensive care.
Nowadays, 2.5 million Serbian citizens can receive the best quality medical protection and care in this object, including complex surgical interventions, since there are 17 of the most modern operating theatres within it. The EIB has financed the construction with EUR 34 million, while EUR 16 million has been allocated by the Government of Serbia for the procurement of equipment.
The EU has provided new and more modern operating theatres, emergency centers, a large number of hospital beds, new ambulances, hospital kitchens and hygiene equipment for the centers in Kikinda, Pančevo, Sombor, Subotica, Smederevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Paraćin, Ćuprija, Jagodina, Zaječar, Čačak, Kruševac, Užice, Novi Pazar, Leskovac, Pirot and especially in Belgrade in four large health institutions (KBC Zvezdara and Zemun, GAK Narodni Front and the Mother and Child Institute).
Owing to the aid from the European Union, millions of citizens of Serbia can get a better and more modern health protection in other cities as well.
