Info Day on the Challenge Call for decarbonisation of the economy held in Kraljevo

On Tuesday, June 7, at the hotel “Sunce” in Kraljevo, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, in cooperation with the City of Kraljevo, held the fourth Info Day on the Challenge Call for decarbonisation of the economy and depollution of the environment. This public call has been announced with the financial support of the European Union and in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the European Investment Bank, within the project "EU for Green Agenda in Serbia".

The event gathered more than 40 representatives of local self-governments, as well as representatives of civil sector organizations and public and sector private companies from the West Morava basin (Čačak, Arilje, Lučani, Novi Pazar, Vrnjačka Banja, Čajetina, Tutin, Aleksandrovac), who are interested in proposing and implementing solutions for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in sectors such as electricity and heat production, transport, construction, agriculture, and waste management.

At this event, the participants learned more about the conditions of participation and the application process, as well as the types of support that will be provided for the implementation of the best solutions submitted to this Public Call.

In addition, representatives of the association "Novi put" from Kraljevo presented how using renewable energy sources can lead to reducing both the costs of electricity and heat production, and greenhouse gas emissions. Slobodan Jerotić, energy efficiency and renewable energy expert and former managing director of the Public Utility Company "Toplana-Šabac", shared with the audience the experience of producing energy by using solar power, for the company's own needs. Namely, in 2020 on the roof of the building of the Šabac heating plant a small solar photovoltaic power plant of 3 kilowatts was installed, through the project of the first Energy Cooperative in Serbia "Sunny Roofs Šabac". Thus, "Toplana-Šabac" became the first public company in Serbia to start producing electricity from renewable energy sources.
