The cities and municipalities of Vojvodina are known for numerous national minorities living together. One such city is Subotica, one of the 35 local governments in which the project "EU Support to Improvement of Living Conditions of Roma" implements activities that should lead to improved living conditions of the Roma. In addition to preparing technical documentation for communal infrastructure and reconstruction of the social (cultural) center in Čantavir, project activities during October were aimed at supporting members of the Mobile Team for Roma Inclusion in defining priorities and work programs of the future cultural center - House of National Communities and preparation of the Mobile Team's operational plan for 2021.
By its inhabitants, who are mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, Čantavir is called "a village at the end of the world" because it is rather poorly connected by roads with other populated places in the city. Today, it is mostly inhabited by Hungarians, and the village also has two substandard Roma settlements.
The aim of the workshops held in Čantavir was to prepare a work plan for the future cultural center, taking into account the needs and diversity of the two largest groups of national minorities - Hungarians and Roma. The work plan of the cultural center, which will be equally used by Roma and Hungarians, will envisage programs and activities that should contribute to better connection and integration of both communities.
