Workshop on the Progress of Public Finance Management Reform Held

With the support of the European Union (EU), a workshop on the progress of public finance management reform was held, bringing together representatives of the Working Group for the Preparation, Monitoring, and Reporting on the Implementation of the Public Finance Management Reform Program (PFMRP) 2021–2025.

The workshop focused on preparing the Report on the Implementation of the PFMRP for 2024, reviewing planned steps for the current year, and defining the timeline for the development of the new Public Finance Management Reform Program for the 2026–2030 period. Participants discussed the achievements and challenges in implementing reforms and emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to modernize and improve the public finance management system.

In the field of public finance management, Serbia continues to align with global trends, including the digitization process and the integration of green aspects into public finances, while also harmonizing with obligations stemming from the European integration process. In 2024, for the first time, a "Green Budget" annex was prepared as part of the budget documentation, providing information on the planning and allocation of funds with a positive environmental impact. Serbia is among countries to have integrated a green budget into the Budget Law, according to members of the Working Group for the Preparation, Monitoring, and Reporting on the Implementation of the 2021–2025 PFMRP.

This workshop reflects Serbia's ongoing commitment to harmonizing public finance management practices with European Union standards and ensuring transparency and efficiency in the use of public funds.

The workshop was organized as part of the project "EU for Public Finance Management in Serbia", funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, in partnership with the Center for Excellence in Finance (CEF) and the Ministry of Finance of Slovakia.
