Summary
A modern European judiciary is supported by Information and Communication Technology. This area requires considerable investment in infrastructure, software and human resources, to establish a unique system throughout the entire judicial system and increase its efficiency. The EU support focuses on speeding up documents and information processing, improving the quality of work, availability of documents and data, and control of all institutions.
Introducing the SAPO case management software in 75 public prosecutors’ offices will shorten the average case processing time. The centralised electronic archive of cases and documents will also improve reporting efficiency, increase transparency by publishing data on the web site and reduce overall costs by abandoning paper registry books. The ultimate integration with courts will contribute to a sustainable interoperability platform throughout the judicial system.
This project will also help achieve centralised and consolidated data relevant to the Prison Administration needs. The roll-out of the SAPA system in 21 prison institutions throughout Serbia will allow monitoring of data related to all convicted persons, from the moment of admission to sentence serving until release. Specific activities will be standardised, such as working with juvenile offenders, mandatory psychiatric treatment and custody in a medical institution, and mandatory treatment of drug addicts and alcoholics.
