Local Development Programme – EU programme for local development

Summary

The EU continues to support the competitiveness and innovation sector aiming to secure a more balanced socio-economic development in Serbia and improve business environment. 

Through the EU PRO programme, support is provided to small businesses as backbone of economy and the key to economic growth and employment. The European Union confirms its commitment to support Serbia and more balanced regional development, with a special focus on improving competitiveness of local self-governments. It recognizes the need to increase investment in public and business infrastructure at the local level because it directly affects the quality and standard of life. This is actually the goal of this project: better life of Serbian citizens.

The new financial opportunity - grant scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is intended for provision of equipment and introduction of services, which contributes to higher productivity, innovation, improvement of the quality of existing and development of new products and, most importantly, job creation. 

This project improves productivity of Serbian SMEs and develops higher quality products thus making their market and export position more competitive. Through this programme, a Business Support Organizations and NGOs also support their ability to provide specialised services. Through this project, local governments will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills for implementing future donor-funded, primarily by the EU, projects. Additionally, strengthening local self-governments is an important segment of overall economic development of the country.
