Summary
Most judicial facilities are between 30 to 60 years old and have undergone only minimal maintenance. The insufficient capacity affects service delivery: there is a lack of courtrooms in courts and interview rooms in PPOs, persons with limited mobility have limited access to the facilities, while witnesses and victims do not have separate entrances or areas. The EU will provide contribution to significant investments in infrastructure to enable the system to perform consistently with the European standards.
The court in Novi Sad is one of the four appeals courts for the entire Serbia. Through this project, a new annex to the building will be constructed, where the Basic and Higher court and Basic and Higher Public Prosecutors Offices will be hosted, bringing together all courts and PPOs functions in one building (around 250 employees).
The facility will have improved security, in particular for transfer of prisoners, protected witnesses and victims of violence. It will also have adequate access for people with disabilities. The basis for electronic case filing will be established, increasing the speed of access to cases for citizens and shortening case processing times. Equipment for video conferencing will allow video hearings, which will reduce transportation costs and paperwork.
