Summary
Human trafficking - buying, selling and exploitation of adults and children is horrible for individuals, and damaging for society. To help Serbia prevent trafficking and protect victims, the EU provides training of institutions and supply of necessary equipment.
As 50% of victims are minors, police departments in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš will be equipped with special rooms for interviewing children, which could be also used for all vulnerable victims and witnesses. Equipment will be supplied for specialised units for combating human trafficking (police departments, Border and Criminal Police Directorates), for witness protection, financial investigations and undercover investigators, and the Centre for human trafficking victims’ protection and the Shelter for victims.
The support also includes training of police officers fighting against human trafficking: from the Protection Unit and Financial Investigation Unit, the Service for combating organised crime and other specialised units, undercover investigators, officers of the Border Police Directorate. Joint training and procedures strengthen cooperation between the Police, the Centre for the protection of victims of human trafficking, social welfare centres and labour inspectors in discovering cases of trafficking and protecting the victims.
